Default 1997 V70 Dash Light type

So I need to replace two dash warning lights on my V70R. Will Standard 285 type push in bulbs fit or should o get 501's?? I've heard these can be replaced by removing lower dash panel??

The dashboard illumination uses 504s. 501s will fit and work but the extra heat generated will melt things.

I think the warning light bulbs are 286. It should be possible to change them with the lower dash panel removed. I tried it with the trip computer bulbs and gave up, but the warning light bulbs are easier.
