Speak to volvo diagnostic in Tilbury they do repair way cheaper https://volvodiagnostic.com/

Although it may be that some of the cost is removal and refitting which of course you'd then have to do yourself and its a bit of a faff from from what I've read

well you have taken it to one of the best volvo workshops in the country the staff have been there for decades.
I'm afraid any motor vehicle repair these days since the virus struck is going to cost double what it was pre 2019 due to the economic situation. If you have a new car just about any job will be over £1000 rather that a few £100 pre 2019.

If it IS the CEM you could send it to be repaired , it is likely to be failed soldered joints. There is someone on here who does that kind of thing, name begins with S I believe. someone else will know ....

if its something i can afford ill pay someone to get it sorted

if its cost prohibitive ill find someone who can help me remove the unit to send it to tilbury.

keith price may be good but they are very dismissive of older cars.

more than one occasion said is it worth it. surely thats my call not theirs

Is £600 Volvo Diagnostics price? They repaired mine for £160 - a couple of years ago, possibly 3, so that price must include labour to remove and replace it. I took mine out myself - it's not too hard, mine's a P2 'L' shaped CEM.

There's a how to guide on the Xemodex website I think. The hardest bit was getting the multi-plugs off - there's a small tab that needs to be pressed in to release them - not easy when you're upside down in the drivers footwell.

Found the guide here

https://xemodex.com/blog/volvo-centr...v70-xc70-xc90/

Go to about 4 mins in to see what you need to remove from the car to get to it (wipers and linkage)

its 200 for repair and 280 for 2hrs work.....

Sell it for what you can get and buy an Amazon. Mathewsons has a good one as well as a 140 series with 15k on the clock from new. If I had spare cash I buy that.
