165SR15 tyres
Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of some 165SR15 tyres for my dad's 1973 144 DeLuxe? Its sailed through its MOT but I've been warned that one of the tyres does need to be replaced soon but both the dealer and myself are struggling to find tyres in that size. Any help is appreciated.

Try searching Black Circles on the web, they're offering Michelin options, Vredestein also make a tyre in this range in the Classic range. You could also check with the Amazon & PV users as that's the size they use as well. From memory, I think it also fits the VW Beetle. I use 185/70 x 15 on mine but the 185/65 x 15 is the most common alternative.

So just out of curiosity, would a 165SR15 then equate to a 165 R15? Unfortunately, with the car being so old, my dealer is stumped and a couple of well established tyre places I have called said that "SR" tyres are no longer available. If its a 165 R 15 that will work, then its sorted because my local COSTCO stocks them at a very reasonable price.
Thanks again for your replies.

R is just the speed rating so you can use use what you have found, SR/VR/HR is the older way of describing them, now they just follow the alphabet!

The answer is Yes and the tyres are of a suitable speed rating for a 144.

Just fitted 165 R 15 Hankook tyres to my PV, sourced via mytyres.co.uk. Haven't done a lot of miles with them yet but they seem to be alright, especially for that price!
Cheers, Chris |

Many thanks to all who posted replies. I'll get some of the recommended tyres on order then.

Thanks for that, so as long as its a 165 R15, with the appropriate speed rating, then I should be fine? I guess the R (radial) is to differentiate it from the more traditional cross-ply ones then.
