I am tagging along with some chaps from Passion Ford, thought I would see if anyone is going.
In addition i thought i would supply some useful information: Ferry from Dover to Boulogne http://www.speedferries.com/ Ferry from Hull - Rotterdam. http://www.directferries.co.uk/ Many booked on the Hull outbound at 9pm on the 4th April. Returning on the 9PM ferry from Rotterdam on the 10th. Facts and figures: The Nurburgring is approximately 250miles drive from Calais. From Birmingham it's about 8 hrs total drive to the Ring. 12 Laps of the ring will cost 144 Euros (around £100). The tunnel crossing “per car” is approx £150 return Handy sites and Numbers: Local Tourist Office: 0049 2691 302610. They speak perfect English and are very helpful. Ben Lovejoys excellent site: http://nurburgring.org.uk/ Northloop.co.uk: http://northloop.co.uk/ Where to stay: http://www.nuerburg.de/tourist-info/.../pensionen.php http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.html Issues to consider: Book the time off work NOW. Don’t forget to book a hotel. Don’t forget to book a crossing and a return. Don’t forget your passport and insurance details. Don’t forget to get EU cover on your car insurance. Don’t forget to arrange some EU breakdown cover. (AA/RAC/ADAC) You MUST get the new European Health Insurance Card www.ehic.org.uk Don’t forget that tyres and brakes will take a hammering, best to set off with new ones fitted IMO or take spares. You can NOT afford to crash at the Nurburgring. It is Notoriously expensive. The most common question i have seen asked so far over the years is "What does it cost?" Example of costs based on 2 people in a T5: Fuel for 1400 miles @ 25mpg: £230 Hotel at Folkestone on way out: £50 Hotel at Nurburgring for 3 nights: £120 20 laps of ring: £260 Fuel for 20 laps @ 10mpg: £140 5 days food for 2 (£40 per day): £200 Hotel at Folkestone on way back: £50 Total: £1050 Additional expenses: Greencard for insurance policy: £30 Travel insurance: £60 European breakdown cover: £65 Eurotunnel return ticket: £130 Total Outlay: £1335.00 I am personally going on plane - should cost £70 return, MAX and £25 / day for a medium basic hatchback. Haven't quite got the funds to take the T5 |
