Default 1986 360 GL

Does anyone have an idea of what a 1986 360 GL with only 30K miles is worth? It was purchased as an ex-demo car from Volvo, kept garaged, used very little in the late 80's and has been stored for many years. It is started regularly to keep it running. It must be worth more than the book price but how much?

tricky question.. thing is, it *should* be worth around £500.. using logic.. but in all honesty i've not seen a 300 go for more than 250. There is another one that was around on here that was listed at £250 (for an A reg 340 gl, with 30k on the clock) and i believe its still for sale.. so i would say.. maybe £200.. you might get lucky with a higher price.. but i dunno.

Sadly must agree with the low price opinion. These cars are good and solid and some can be real nippy too but it is just because they are an 'old' car there is no value in them to other than their owners. My own 360 GLE (E-reg) will probably just be stripped shortly as I doubt that anyone will buy it. (The parts will be worth more than the whole in this case.)

incidentally - does the gl have any unusual parts? such as bodykit or aircon - i only ask because it seems strange a dealer would choose to demonstrate a low-spec model (as the GL was) simply because they normally used toys to persuade the buyer to trade up

I paid £350 for my "f" reg 4 door GLT with 34000 genuine miles in July 2003, only because I had had 2 before and knew they were such a great car, body work wasn't brilliant but I like them so much I am going to spend £400 or £500 doing it up, which some people may think is mad but the way i look at it is thats only about 2 payments on a new car, I am in the motor trade and many modern cars just arent as relaible as they should be and if you don't have a warranty then repairs often cost hundreds. In my opinion when they reached the level of electronics in a 360 glt they should have stopped, no abs brakes or catalyst or airbag, a lot less to go wrong, they really are great cars, a bit of a secret I think to a lot of motorists, hope I can keep mine for years, Jim.

Thanks for all your comments.

It is a little shocking that this car could be worth so very little. Apart from a few minor marks it is practically in 'as new' condition. It has the B200 engine, which apart from the capacity and carburettor seems the same as my B21A - an engine that covered over 300K miles.

PS I think it is a GLE rather than GL

gle would have colour coded bumpers and electric windows. gl wouldnt - a gle is far more likely - i dont think they did gls that late (for 360s).

it is surprising that they arent worth much but thats unfortuantly what the motor trade is like - the cars are neither classic nor new, and they were not generally regarded as great cars of their time (unlike, say, a mini) so seem to have no residual value any more..

The Bxx engines are very similar to the Bxxx engines, the main difference being that the more modern Bxxxs have narrower crank bearings, making for lower internal friction, and better efficiency...albeit at the cost of some strength and longetivity.

There are still tales of Bxxxs regularly topping 250k, so they're hardly a 'weak' design for a petrol engine!

cheers

James
