It seems weird that I'm not subscribed to this thread already ... maybe I am and the forum got a glitch.

Anyway, since a fullish tank loses less fuel to evaporation than an emptyish tank, and running really low tempts possibly fictional "grit" into the pumps,
I fill up with 45.5 litres every time (ish).

This way I know vaguely what mileage I'm getting and if the engine suddenly goes all inefficient I'll know about it when my ten gallons doesn't get me 300 miles.

I wait until the range shows about 50 miles and then fill the car up with BP Ultimate Diesel until the pump stops. I simply don't have the time to put in small amounts of diesel frequently.

My 80L tank in the 960 is eye-watering to brim, especially with Shell Vpower, so I usually limit myself to the maximum Pay-at-Pump which is £99

OR 45.4 litres which is near enough 10 gallons. 300 miles is the target

Cheers

I fill up super diesel but the wholesale place is a 20 minute drive from me so i usually brim the tank and fill 2x 20L Jerry cans at the same time.

Always fill up a diesel fully
The less air in the tank, the less condensation can get into the fuel

why would anyone want to put £5 or £10/£20 in a fuel tank......i am amazed when sometimes i fill up that someone has put in a fivers worth....they will be back the following day?

It costs fuel to drive to a station

It takes time (some value time like money so waste it?)

I have a Mini as well as the beloved Volvo V70, it only has a 8 gallon tank, it is a right pain in the bum having to fill it twice a week. I love the big tank, big range V70, my wife gets about 3 week worth out of it

These days for the Mini I always fill it, my wife gets bored when she fills the V70 and normally stops at about £50-60, When I fill it, I try to do so where it is cheaper, never on a motorway
