won't start suspect ECU
I have a 240 Torslanda that won't start it was running fine but sudden;y cut out no cough or splutter just died.
There is no spark or injector pulse. I have checked TDC sensor and that looks and gives a respectable signal on cranking. I cannot see or thinkl what else to try. Any help appreciated Car is 1991 H reg UK. Can I check ECU function any way? Thanks Neil |

Check the ignition control module, mounted on the nearside wing between the battery and the headlamp, small module likely to have 'Bosch' printed on it, I had similar problems with my GLT.

In my limited experience with the same model, the causes of cutting out or failing to start have been
1) dirty fuses 2) fuel pump relay 3) ignition amplifier module, as has been suggested 4) crank sensor |

Still won't start
Have just spent 2 days working on fuse holders lots of corrosion. Fuel pump relay doesn't prime untill I bypass relay do I have to leave relay in and does the ECU need to get a circuit through relay ?
I have tried igniion amplifier no joy there? I have tested crank sensor by taking off plug and testing for a pulse on meter and I get a signal but don't know how much I should expet to see. If its ECU I have got 2 from scarpyard and will try them as last resort but I'm not convinced its something small like a sensor or something. the manual talks of a main system relay but I can't find one also a fuel pump fuse but that should be OK as I hear the pump run when I short uot relay. the batteries flat now so am charging overnight to try again tomorrow. Any ideas ? Thanks Neil |

Have you tried using the OBD?

ECU failure
The Fuel ECU (last 3 Bosch digits 595) on my '91 940 failed and the car just died on the highway. RAC said no injector pulses, and ECU failure confirmed at Bosch service centre. I believe the older ECU's are renowned for failing. The newer ones are more reliable. I'm now running a 951 ECU purchased quite cheaply off ebay, with Fred's chips. My car is normally aspirated.
I think I'm right in saying that the fuel relay needs an input from the ECU, and it may be possible to repair this output on the ECU. However you say you have no injector pulses like me. In my case the ECU failure was terminal and a new ECU was required. If you have another compatible ECU, probably worth a try. One other suggestion: Assuming your engine is LH2.4, I believe you can test the ECU using the OBD Diagnostic Test Mode 3: Injection System Component Activation Test, see http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=84817 about 2/3 of the way into Fred's post. I'd be interested to know if this test is helpful. All the best, Ben Last edited by RealEstate; Dec 13th, 2008 at 00:12. |

Well done! Be sure the EZK you got is compatible with your engine, in particular turbo & non-turbo don't mix. There's a list of compatible EKZ & ECU in Fred's thread, perhaps you have seen it? http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=84817 All the best, Ben |
