C70 folding roof problems to look for

the doors can pop open when the roof is down but this is due to lack of lubrication on the lock mechanism . easy fix with white spray grease i did ours last year with no problems since enjoy your c70..

I've had two issues with the roof of my 2009 in the three years I've had it now, both pretty much self-inflicted: bent a pin on the CRM when installing the SmartTop module which stopped it from working altogether until I had bent the pin back to the right place.

Second time was the first warm day this year. I pushed the button and absolutely nothing happened, no warning, no error, just did nothing. A VIDA scan revealed the CRM had stopped talking to the CEM a few weeks previously, on thinking about it I realised that must have been the exact same day that some idiot left the key in the ignition for an entire workday and had to call my breakdown service for a jumpstart. Feared the jumpstart had fried something and resigned myself to driving a rattly overweight coupe with an enormous boot for a few weeks while I saved up for a repair, before figuring I had nothing to lose by trying a "hard reboot" - pulled the battery negative, made a cup of coffee, drank it and then replaced the battery. That whine of the roof motor had never sounded so good until the huge wave of relief was replaced by the major panic induced by the thought of "OMG, What if it won't close afterwards".

Thankfully it has continued to work flawlessly ever since.

If the worst does happen there is a video around that shows the process of manually closing the roof - it's a three man operation, but at least does make it driveable in all weathers pending a proper fix.

Hello, I am looking at buying C70 with a roof problem,
so need an idea of the cost to repair please? the boot opens about 85 degrees then it tells you there is a fault and you have to wait about 2 minutes before the boot will close. I know the locking pins release above the windscreen but the roof and rear glass sections do not move.

you are better off letting the seller fix this or getting a £1000 discount for the unknown fault which could be anything from a broken wire where the loom bends on the left hinge ... to a new ecu !

Just the rest of the car. Most problematic car I've ever owned. Springs, top mounts, lower front arms, brake pressure sensor, AM on the radio, stepped rear tyres, window washers pumps, Bi xenon balast failures, leaking boot, air conditioning heat exchanger, crap paint on the alloys, number plate light design leaks and corrodes, alarm problems.......Volvo UK are pretty rubbish, dealers not great, especially up in Bradford.......apart from that, the last 10 years with my C70 has been great.
To be fair there are many positives, but far too many issues for me.

Forgot.....rear shock absorbers.....both front wheel bearings.....the list goes on 😢

I bought it for £850 so I suppose that is like getting £1,000 off. Interestingly I have got the roof to work now. However I still get the roof fault message & it is temperamental. Tonight only the boot opened and the rear parcel shelf refused to fold down.
