Quite probably.
The timing doesn't need to be out by much. After putting mine back together after a cambelt failure, I took an educated guess at the injection pump timing. I was out by 5 degrees. the car started well but was down on power and the emissions light came on after 10 minutes or so. After dynamic timing it was spot on and performed as well as it had ever done. When replacing the belts it's certainly possible to get very close without timimg it dynamically or using a dial gauge. If it wasn't timed dynamically after the belts were changed, then the odds are it's a bit off. Martin 1998 V70 Tdi auto 226000 miles |
