C70 - should I shouldn't I ???
Thinking of moving from a 2001 S60 2.2 Turbo Auto to a C70 with retracting hard top. Whats the general thoughts on these later Volvo's
any models I should look out for or avoid diesel auto would be nice but these seem to have had problems in the past, well more so than Volvo's in general |

It depends on what diesel automatic you want... There are 4 available:
2.0D with Powershift Dual Clutch D3 with 6 speed auto. D4 with 6 speed auto. D5 with 5 speed auto. The D5 is in my opinion too old for the car and the automatic is way out of what it should be today. MY choice would be the D3 with the 6 speed geartronic. Reliable, uptodate, better than the 2.0D, a little cheaper to run than the D4.

Just some comments on the D5 engine with manual box - my previous cars were V6 petrol engines which most of the time I'd trickle around with them not much above tickover at 1000 to 1500rpm. I thought I might struggle to do the same with the D5, but I have to say it's pretty good - easy to trickle along at 30mph in 5th gear if required, then a nice push of torque as you get towards 1300-1400rpm. Did notice the latest C70 D4 2.0 litre diesel is virtually the same power/torque specs as the D5 - not driven one though, so can't comment how they drive. I did have a V50 courtesy car last year, 2.0D I think, and it was excellent, smooth and loads of torque - very impressive.
