Default Battery Life

Battery on my 2005 163hp D5 is starting to show signs of needing changing.
Was amazed to find when looking at the date code on the -ve terminal that it's the original battery Price for a new one from Volvo £133:00 + vat, 2 year guarantee. Yuasa from Halfords with Trade card £105:00 inc vat, 5 year guarantee.
Now if the Volvo one is going to last me 15 years ...... no contest, but I think Volvo use a different manufacturer now. Not sure what one to go for, plan on keeping car for as long as possible .

And to think there are places saying a battery doesn't last 5 years.. maybe true for very lost cost units, but a genuine unit is usually good for 10 years or more. Especially when located inside the trunk, away from the damaging heat of the engine. However, a battery may still crank perfectly the engine, while no longer being able to be fully charged (from wear), which may put stress on the alternator regulator. Worth testing the battery even when it's properly starting the car
