Default Service XC 60 6 years or 70,000

I have just been quoted £495-00 for the above service by one dealer
and another £395-00.

£100 is hell of a difference any comments?

Dealerships vary in price, its not uncommon.

Just confirm with both dealerships exactly what they're going to do for the price quoted & if its the same, save yourself a £100 & go for the cheapest one.

Hmm. There's not normally THAT much difference between service pricing between dealers in the same area.

I would confirm with them that they are offering the actual same service - don't want a nasty surprise when you pick the car up. If they are they go with the cheaper option and save yourself the £100.

Old old! I consider 6 years young.Another 6 at least in there.

I prefer the main dealer to Sid's place.

By contrast I prefer to speak to the guy with the spanner in his hand rather than the clueless receptionist whilst my car disappears into the ether having who knows working on it doing who knows what.

Prev car I did let Audi service it, but only because they price matched my local garage (Porsche specialist) Prev to that my 5 series only ever saw the dealer for warranty work and I saved a fortune over the 60k I had it. I only tend to keep mine for 2 years so no big deal really but everyone is different and you'd be foolish to dismiss local specialists, most have the same access to diag and the tech data as the dealer, you're just not paying for the fancy place, uniforms and latte's...

I was faced with this dilemma and nearly went for my trusted local mechanic which had done a perfect job over the 14 years of my 2002 S60 ownership .... (car was faultless too)

However, when I got my nearly new S90 two years ago, he said he could do the basics but did not have the new Volvo Vida machine or subscription and therefore could not do the software updates etc... given at the time I knew there was a software update that remapped the gearbox I went with the dealer......

Unfortunately, the days of the trusted local mechanic working on a car loaded with electronics are phasing out. These newer cars are full of electronics & need specialist software to diagnose problems etc. Your local mechanic may well be able to fix the mechanical stuff like brakes or suspension, so you could still use him for things like that if you wish.

Find an independent Volvo specialist for diagnostics & servicing though, not a dealership - The independent's have the required VIDA software etc. Use your trusted mechanic for other repairs, if you still wish to put odd jobs that don't require diagnostics his way.
