Hi you Guys and Gals out there - do hope you can assist. Our oldish C70 softop had a failed battery, had it properly charged at the garage, but now when we have driven it it keeps spluttering, almost like it is going to cut out with all dash board lights coming up, then drives on and after a few km does it again. Obviously cannot drive it too far at the moment - so any tips or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance PS. do you think we needs a new fuel filter? Kiwi cas

You say it had a failed battery - have you replaced it? I think that's the first thing I'd do, or at least check it thoroughly.

What Battery do you have on their now? Brand, Amps, Cranking etc?
If this is the only change prior to this issue, I'd say start again with a decent battery or have it exchanged to see what difference is made.

Whilst the C70 isn't the most taxing on batteries, it's certainly not a fan of cheap/basic/under powered batteries.

I always get Bosch S5's from Tanya and they are great performers. The cars certainly prefer this to the Bosch S4 which I think is the default recommendation.

(It is possible to get duff new batteries, had a couple that lasted days from the likes of Motaquip and Lion).

With it spluttering and faltering with all the dash lights coming on, is it the problem with the ignition lock/switch? Next time it does it try wiggling the ignition key just a little bit to see if it improves.

Any of the above replies, but when my 1999 V70 did the same it turned out to be the alternator that was on it's way out. So worth getting it checked......
