Default Front '170 degree' nose / grille camera

Hi - I live where there are lots of country lanes and it is impossible to pull out safely from a T-junction until the nose of the car is way out into the crossing road. When new, the XC60 had a £250 dealer-fit option of a nose camera in the Volvo badge and I was told I could get it fitter later by the sales man. So I just got a quote and it is nearly £600. Has anyone retrofited one themselves, or found a cheaper dealer than my local one?

I had one fitted to my MY 2014 model when I bought it in 2015.

To use the camera to sneak out and see if it is safe to proceed you have to be perpendicular to the road you are joining so that you can see the traffic in both directions. The image in the screen is rather contrasty so shadow areas are very dark.

However the camera is useful when parking into a slot in a car park as you can see the white line showing the limit of the space and so tell you how far you can drive into the slot, you can also judge the position by seeing the front or rear or the adjacent vehicles.

As for value it is less valuable than the reversing camera (which is essential in a XC60 - in my opinion) however the front cameras are a "nice to have" option. Should I ever be in a position to order new I would have them fitted.
