Park Assist Service Required
Hi All
Wondering if someone could help, this has popped up on my car and the rear parking is not working. Is the only way to determine the faulty sensor (assuming it is a sensor) with the VIDA computer? Would a generic ebay type code reader be of any assistance? 2008 V50 Thanks in advance Rich |

Hi Rich,
I had the same message appear on my car, after having a new key programmed at my Main Dealer. I got the Technicians to diagnose the fault and was quoted a minimum of £187 to repair it, if it was just the sensor and not the control unit. They said that they would have to fault find, as they did not have the information available to say definitely where the fault was. I managed to get a new replacement sensor from eBay (£9), removed the rear bumper and disconnected each sensor in turn and tried the new one in its place. After each sensor change I started the car and selected reverse gear, until I found the faulty sensor. It probably took me about 90 minutes in total, the most difficult part was managing the removal and replacement of the bumper by myself. |

When one of my sensors stopped working, I dropped the bumper down and checked them one by one. IIRC , there are three terminals, and if you check the resistance between the terminals then compare them you should be able to find the faulty one...
This only took up my time, and cost around £15 off eBay. . |

Supposedly the sensors vibrate when reverse is selected so you could feel for that if you don't have access to VIDA.
If you're on Facebook, this page might be helpful for you to find someone nearby that has it - https://www.facebook.com/groups/7902...?ref=bookmarks The sensors are very cheap on e-bay as well - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Rea...53.m1438.l2649 I've had the issue, but fortunately I have VIDA and found it was sensor 4 which is the drivers side sensor.

You can hear them clicking if you bend down to each one in turn and put your ear close by. You'll spot the failed one easily as the click will be absent, weak or irregular. If all are good, it's the control module.
