Even if you could, there would be no difference so why bother?

If yours is the 2.5 TDI (with the cam-driven fuel pump on the right of the engine) then it's actually an VW/Audi engine so you may be better asking on a VAG group.

OP has a 2005 so it can't be the VAG engine which was long retired by then.

There's no mention of diesel so it could be a 2.5T petrol.

He's also in the US according to his profile, so will be petrol as I don't think they got the oil burner.

Iirc the 2.5 t is run on the light pressure turbo. Again I think it runs with a slightly smaller turbo to allow it to spool up faster. I remember reading along time ago the 2.5t was better at certain rev range than the T5 but due to the bigger turbo eventually the T5 wins out. However the turbo will be controlled by the ecu which in the 2.5t will be expecting a small turbo. Thus if a bigger turbo is installed the ecu will need updating, or performance will actually be worse. Additionally the injectors will be different too.
Not an impossible mod. but would think a ecu reprogram would get where you want to be with less hassle. This was one option I looked at when I was wanting to get a replacement T5 10 yrs ago, and could not find a suitable one then an awd R appeared. Cheers bob |
