As I'm sure you may have read already, the internet is full of people complaining how bad this box is, however they do tend to be Ford owners.
Is the box knackered or is it something else like a solenoid or the dmf etc etc.
At the end of the day most modern cars are extremely reliable, however, I don't think there is any modern car these days that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to fix when they do go wrong.
Thank you very much. Im not sure yet. getting the diagnostic test done on Tues which will then tell me the fault with the box. whatever happens i know i need to spend money on it but after its done how often would you recommend i change the fluid in the transmission?

I believe the other good think with the auto diesel is the dpf is a dry system so no eolys fluid or replacing the dpf at 75000 miles which isnt cheap!

Service schedule recommends 80K

I think yours is a dry dpf, so no fluid needed and replacement at 150k. Easy to check using hidden menu.

The fluid and gearbox oil filter MUST ( not optional , it is part of the service ) be changed every 50000 miles , I guess this is why they fail , the neglected ones , the metal particles from the clutches swirl around in the oil for far too long ..

I have recently been advised by a specialist who repair 50-60 of these a month (on Fords mainly) to change the oil and filter ever 20-25k and no more.

The internal filter can only be changed if the box is stripped (external one is easy to change). Ford recommend chasing the fluid every 37.5k, however the opinion is every 20-25k keeps the fluid fresh and the transmission free of debris internally.

Thank you guys. So how much roughly is a oil and filter change? im guessing its quite labour intensive if you need to change the internal filter? i know the oil and filter is around £100 then i get my cousin whos mechanic to do the works usually. Really nervous about the diagnostic test but i really want the car to be fixed.

According to Volvo it is optional on some lease vehicles.

Mine cost £200 but that included 2 flushes. I've a feeling that the sequence for doing this job needs some degree of specialised knowledge.

One sign is dark and burnt smelling oil.
