Depreciation is a fact of life - didn't want to wait for the new one, even if the tech will be better, or I'd have bought an X3 with Idrive now. Who knows what the new one will cost?
Managed to get dealer to substitute my spec for one they already had in the speculative/stock order pipeline, so from me agreeing the deal to delivery will be around 7 weeks. So it's registered before April 1st under TODAYS tax regime, not the new one (matters if list price over £40k.)
Means I got all the features I wanted and the colour, rather than something that was in UK already.
You could do a good deal on a new one if it's one you'd be happy with. It's worth talking to a dealer about a deal, because they are keen. Try Andrew Short at Marshall's of Cambidge....by all means mention my name. He might remember!!
good luck, anyway.

Agree that buying mine was due to impending taxation also it will be a brand new model I got a total discount of £7300 and cannot see the new model being offered with this amount of discount for at 3 or 4 years.

if you're going to update your car this is the best time, unless you want the new-style dash. Suppose the emissions might be less with the new lighter floor pan, and maybe a bit more space inside, but - I didn't want to wait, and got a lot of quality car for £35k

don't know anything about PCP rates - did they give you a list price to compare it with? with PCP you either pay something up front and then again after 24 months if you want to keep/own the car, or there's a guaranteed value at 24 months which may be enough to give you enough to put down as deposit on a new PCP. You can get similar deals from Drive The Deal, car WOW etc. Think you can get a quote online.. Have to add up your total spend to drive it for 2 years, and what you'll have left over, or the cost to buy the car if you want to.

just ran it through the configurator - its about 5k discount, and 0% finance is good. gets you into a brand new car with all the safeguards and guarantees, so it's not bad:-)

I think they run "Selekt Used" events periodically. The discounts on NEW cars are down to a dealer needing to make sales. Seems £5k off list is quite normal at the moment.

When I was looking at pcp vs pch vs hp for a new car, it looked fairly simple.

With a pcp deal there is a big initial deposit, cheap mthly payments, then a huge final payment to own the car (approx £13-16k for £35k car). But when I worked it out, the p/x or private value of the car after the 3 or 4 year term is equal roughly to the two large payments put together. The monthly payments are just covering depreciation. You may have some equity built up but you've obviously paid for it. When you come to getting a new deal, the same thing happens all over again. Unless you keep the car and have no monthly payments anymore, but then you have a expensive and sophisticated car with no warranty.

With pch you're just paying for the depreciation. You'll never own it but don't have to find the approx £22k for the privilege.

With hp your monthly payments are usually considerably higher but with smaller extra payments to find.

All three methods require a financial commitment but do nevertheless provide a wonderful new car which is nice. Have I got this right?
