Hi there. Just checked the rsr plug.
I've got a red wire- to -ve 12v
I've got a black wire to +ve 12v
With ignition on I've got blue/ yellow 12v.
Now the next wire is just solid blue? And with ignition on I get nothing??

Does it click when you switch the ignition on? I'll bet it doesn't!

Sounds extremely like the relay is dead OR you've not got the RSR! Can you post a photo of the relay and its location as i don't think you're on the right relay, without going into the diagrams again i'd make a guess it's the cooling fan relay you've just tested.

Looking again at the diagram i'm wondering if Volvo have "modified" it. The green/red wire coming out of the relay changes to a soldi blue one that feeds the injectors and igniton circuits so i'm wondering if they've simply done away with the green/red part.

If you remove the relay and look very closely, somewhere the terminals should be numbered. If you find that red is 30 and the solid blue one is 87, link those out with a short piece of wire and see if it starts.

If so then it would appear you do have the right relay after all and the fault is in the relay.

Maybe, maybe not, it might be by the coolant expansion tank instead.

They fitted them in different places depending on model, year and a whole load of other factors that i don't think we'll ever understand.

Right bridged the two terminals. started straight away.
Then messed about with rsr and now starts all the time, but it seems it's permanently on now? The relay that is.
Take it a new relay should sort?

Regards Darren

The relay should switch on and off with the ignition, however if it's reluctant to move to the run position with the ignition on then it stands to reason that it may also be reluctant to move to the off position as well.

A new relay should sort it, is it a standard 4-pin relay? If so, you can pick them up for about £3 upwards for a reasonable one.

That should tell you if it's a standard 4-pin relay.
