Default 2.0D with twin tailpipes

Friend has a 2009 V50 2.0D on a 59 plate (guessing its MY10?). It's and R-Design but has twin tailpipes, but I've never seen a 2.0D with twin tailpipes.

I'm no expert, but I though around this time that the fashion was for the tailpipes to be hidden except for T5 and D5 models. My old '08 plate 2.0D V50 had no tailpipes visible.

Just wondering if maybe this has been modified (which I know is not too hard) with a twin tailpipe backbox or if this could be standard. Perhaps V50/S40 owners could confirm. Cheers.

I agree with you that twin backbox is only found on 5 cyl engines (I think including 2.4 and post FL D2/D3 maybe? not sure which is what, Im lost with all those D's) so if your friend has 4cyl diesel its most likely retrofitted box. Heard of few people doing it and I think its failrly doable.

Certainly looks good. I think whoever did it, did it correctly.

must of been modded, I had a 2008 2.0D S40, it had the exhausts hidden under the bumper.

Hi guys, I have a 2011 Volvo S40 2.0 D3 R Design with twin exhaust pipes (one either side) on glorious “chromed” show. Not a mod and standard for the R Design D3. Those 5 pots growl when needed, gonna get a re-map to match a D4 I reckon

I think the 2ltr 5cyl D3, D4 engines (post D5, 2.0D etc.) had twin exhausts as standard on a V50.

Checking it out. My mate has a T5 lower valance (pierced type) fitted but I think the exhausts are D5 as they stick out a bit, unlike a T5 where they are flush.

Mystery solved. The twin exhausts do look good. Nice mod. Debadged I would be none the wiser.
