Hi

I bought a 740 a month ago and i have the same problem. I go down there and have a look what to do.

Could you please tell me the part nr of the valve? I keep searching on the eurocarparts page but there is no heater valve to my car.

Thanks

Default 940 matrix

Changing a 940 matrix is done from the inside and involves partially removing the dashboard. Not really complicated, but takes 8 to 10 hrs to do.
Both water pipes on the matrix are directly protruding the bulkhead with a vacuum controlled heater valve in the engine bay.
As a temporary fix to prepare yourselve for the job you can take both rubber hoses from the matrix pipes and couple them to eachother with a piece of bended copper pipe (15 mm I believe).
I used this excellent step by step illustrated description:

How do I go about draining all the coolant? Is there a plug at the bottom of the radiator?

Also the pipes to the matrix, are they difficult to replace/possible to reach? Doesn't look like there is much room there!

Anyway I ordered the valve, £31 delivered from euro car parts, not too bad, but still bites slightly when I wasn't told about the issue - still chasing the seller up!

Fingers crossed I will get it this week, so next weekend I can change it

I do have a reconditioned heater matrix from a non-ac car that was not in the car long before the car was wrecked. If anyone wants one, drop me a PM and we can work out a price.

The picture also shows what the valve looks like.

It isn't too bad a job once the clutch pedal is removed. The valve locks into the bulkhead like a bayonet bulb so it won't come free without turning it first.
And watch out for the little white arm that fixes to the control cable as they can be quite fragile.

That is for an AC car, the non-ac is different/easier, as I found out once I had taken it all apart...

Assuming your 740 is righthand drive and non-a/c regret to tell you that heater valves are no longer available. You can still get valves for cars with a/c. If you look on here or Goggle it you will find some alternative work arounds.
