Default Side light bulb removal

Hi there forum,

My sidelight between the dipped and main beam has blown and was wondering if someone could tell me how to remove it please?

I have tried pulling it straight out but have had no joy.

Ta,

Deano.

The book says to hold the wires and pull. Not my preferred method of removing anything. You can get a pair of very long pliers in there but normal long nosed are not long enough. There was a u tube vid about it I saw but I did not bookmark it and cannot now find it sorry.

Default Agree, long nose pliers are the answer....

Long nose pliers are the answer. Quite a strong pull needed on the wires. The ones I used have an 8cm nose.

Hi Deano,

If you do a search on here you will find there are a few Threads about "bulb removal", here is one Thread for starters http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...t=bulb+removal

Just check the Thread is about the same light bulb you are talking about as the "position lights" (on the outside edge of the headlamp cluster) are also difficult to remove.

Grant

PS. Oooops great minds think alike andyg.

Default Watch out for the clip

There is a clip on the bulb holder, it's tricky to get at but can be done with a long but small screwdriver. Best done on the kitchen table. Stupid design if you ask me.

i was originally thinking of a P2, but on a P3 it is as simple as pulling out the holder. These can be very stiff so I used a small screwdriver to wedge under the clip and slowly "walk out" wiggle the holder with a bit of silicone spray to help ease the way

Thanks for all your tips folks. I managed to get it out only to find the spares I had were goosed as well. I used the one from the marker light and it work so belayed my fears of a broken wire.
I replaced the outer marker ones with LED units from Halfords which are error free so will buy another 2 tomorrow and do the side lights as well. I also replaced the headlights with Bosch 120% brighter bulbs so will have a look tonight when it's dark to see how much better they are.
Many thanks again folks.
Ta,
Deano.

If you have changed the headlight bulbs you may need to get the headlights re aligned, I did, no matter how many times I fitted and refitted the new bulbs I could not get them into the same position as the originals and had to adjust the headlights themselves. Firs car I have ever had this problem with and due to the spring clip retention of the bulb rather than the previous solid fixing with spring clip holding it down. No wonder so many cars have poorly adjusted headlights these days.

Cheers Paul, the car is going in to the garage today to get the clicking steering looked at and the loss of power on light throttle so will get them to check the headlight alignment as well.

It is a case of a good hard pull on it (that's what she said)

I think the V70 headlight design internally is stupid as a whole.
The previous owner of my V70 snapped the sidelight wires and taped them back up. I have some spares now to wire in but have not got around to doing this yet
