A decent broker like Flux will find you an insurer that doesn't charge the earth for modifications. I was paying £600 on a little 106 trackcar with a 16V conversion and a host of other bits a few years ago at 22 and with everything declared it was cheaper than anyone else insuring the standard car.

In short, for the little extra it costs to declare everything you've done, it's worth the extra peice of mind. As John said, in an expensive incident if they can get out of paying, they will.

I just got my renewal, through A-Plan for £340 with all mods declared. So that's another one to go and look at. That's with a 10,000 mile limit on the policy though so I'm going to do a bit of shopping around in the near future. Thanks for the Sky name John, I shall add them to the list.

i still cant see them hooking the car up to a diagnostic computer to check the ECU, not unless a witness said you were travelling at 200+mph.

i agree that if you crashed and had other more visible mods then they would try an void the insurance, but a remap is not noticable

Chris Knott was £20 per year than my current insurer, just worried it might break the car, see seperate post

Chris Knott are the daddies, they beat whatever quote I've had for years with a list of mods as long as my leg and you get a 10% discount if you're a VOC member.
