V8 TF80-sc transmission rebuild using box from other model
2008 V8 XC90 with physical damage to the transmission casing and internals on the left (wheel hub side). Hit a rock & one of the casing bolts got chewed up in the gears. Not inspected but quite sure the box is toast.
Getting a replacement V8-specific box is a nightmare. A few in germany but silly money and import (thanks Brexit sheep) and delivery bother. Only issue I know of is the mounting bolt pattern to the engine is specific to the V8, but can anyone please suggest any reason why the engine-side part of the TF80 casing could not be used to enable fitting a box from any other model? I'd have the ECU for the V8. I can't find any difference between TF80s otherwise, even between makes, let alone models. Cheers. |

I think the final drive ratio is different on the V8. You might be able to fit one from a 3.2, but not a diesel.
Make sure you get a Gen1 for ECU compatibility, and of course with AWD. Have a look on the Volvo XC90 Owners UK facebook group, someone in Scotland was breaking a V8 a few months back after theirs was written off. EDIT: The gearbox final drive ratio is unique to the V8, here : https://www.media.volvocars.com/uk/e...specifications
