Default Wiper relay woes

I fitted a VW wiper relay with much swearing and twisting of the wrists, just to find that I then had no intermittent or momentary wipers at all. Oh well, duff relay I thought. Re fitted the original. Still no intermittent or momentary wipers, I made sure it was well in there, gave it a wiggle etc. Any ideas at all folks? I'd love to have my old, far too slow, intermittent wipers back at least..

Thanks guys, It's a 03 C70 T5 GT, it's definitely the 99 relay. Didn't check the fuse, will do in the new year! Thanks!
