press the approach ligths button on your remote ( yellow)

the owners manual contains information you will not find anywhere else

Approach lighting
Approach lighting consists of position lamps,
lamps in the door mirrors, number plate lighting,
interior roof lighting as well as courtesy lighting.
Approach lighting is switched on with the remote
control key, see Remote control key - functions
(p. 168), and is used to switch on the car's lighting at a distance.
When the function is activated with the remote
control key, position lamps, lamps in the door mirrors, number plate lighting, interior roof lamps
and courtesy lighting are switched on.
The length of time for which the approach lighting should be kept on can be set in the menu
system MY CAR, see MY CAR (p. 116)

Really easy to use the key fob button - and set it up via the menu options in the car.

I've driven cars which had what I believe were called puddle lights. They were mounted either in the door sills or on the underside of the doors to illuminate the ground immediately beyond the door when exiting the car to avoid stepping into a puddle or onto rough ground. Very useful. A Mustang I drove projected a silhouette of a mustang onto the ground. Did the job and very stylish. I haven't noticed anything like this on my '12 XC70 Lux. Does it have puddle lights that I haven't noticed or which haven't been selected in the software or something similar? Or is this feature something that appears only on later models?

They're in the bottom of the wing mirrors on my 2011 V70. I have swapped LED bulbs into mine and they illuminate really well, even when the mirrors fold - so much better than my previous car, an Alfa 159, that had them in the bottom of the doors, which meant they no longer illuminated when you shut the doors... I'll go and take some photos

Default puddle lights in action

Here are some photos of the puddle lights working. My sidelight bulbs are LEDs too - and brighter than standard...

Mine was originally a base model ES, though it had the BLiS warning system mirrors from new, so maybe the puddle lights came with that upgrade? Not sure if standard otherwise.

Looking in an original 2011 model brochure, the puddle lights came with the power folding mirrors...

Does it come on when pressing the unlocking button ? Or the light up button in the remote fob?
