Default PV rallying

I'm considering buying a PV for historic rallying: a range of long distance classic events like Monte Historique, Le Jog etc and maybe one or two historic stage events of the RAC type. My background is forest stage rallying so my inclination is to fit a sump guard. I don't know the PV rally spec - I rallied the Swedish competitor - but have been told on the PV you don't need a sump guard because the sump is set so high. This was the advice from the French owner of a PV I was thinking of buying. Any comments appreciatd. Thanks

The rallies you mention are both largely on paved roads. I think you would be OK without a sump guard. It wouldn't hurt to fit one, though, and needn't cost much.

Very true but I'm French based and some of the events here do use vineyard etc tracks and while not like some of the Scottish or Keilder forest stages you do sometimes find a small boulder, rut etc. I'd also like to tackle the RAC again which should be a sump guard unless the PV sump is very high.

I'm not mechanically minded and getting one fitted out here would be a challenge - mechanics here not only take their time (as in weeks/months!) but they tend to ignore instructions and do it their way

Perhaps talk to Rob at Amazon Cars. Also see his YouTube channel.
