Default XC60, Diesel 2400cm3, 2010 poor fuel economy?

I get 13 L/100km, i.e., 18 mpg in the city. I don't race around, don't step on the gas when the light turns to green. The best I got in the city was 11.8 L/100 km, 20 mpg.

Is that acceptable for this model and year?

I took the car to two shops (I got it two years ago, used) and I got the same answer from both: they see nothing wrong with the car, although they couldn't tell me what's the acceptable consumption.

Any ideas?

See fuelly.

Some are worse. Some are better. I believe you can filter down by specific model, possibly in your own country.

Probably not that far off for city driving.

I used to get a combined 32mpg on my last XC60 of the same age as yours and that was around 70% on major roads with not much in towns, but when I went into town the mpg dropped like a stone - I recall looking one day and seeing it showing as 8mog on the instant consumption display 😒

Hi. I have S60 D5 63 reg. and I drive mostly in London. My average fuel consumption is around 34-35mpg.
Your doesn't seem to be alright for a diesel engine of this size. For petrol I will agree, but for diesel not.

63 reg has a very different engine from a 10 reg, though some people would suggest all that Volvo have done to increase the power and meet different emissins regulations is to remap it

XC60 is also much thirstier than a S60

As wimorrison above I get average 31/32 mpg with mixed driving (2008 XC60) when SWMBO has it for local runs (country town) usually shows <25 mpg so yes a bit thirsty but never mind !! Best ever was 37 on a long motorway trip on cruise at indicated 70.
Better than my previous V70 1999 auto petrol, which averaged 26 but MUCH less when "enjoying" the performance !!

Yes I know the engine has some very minor changes and the car is a bit heavier , but what I want to say is that for this size of engine and power 18mpg is way too much, when I got 35mpg in London for comparison!

Your mpg figures seemed *really* low to me so I checked a couple of online convertors which both gave the following:
13 l/km is ~ 21.7 UK mpg
11.8 l/km is ~ 23.9 UK mpg

I never got to low 20s with my XC90 D5 but I imagine it could be possible in pure city driving.
One thing not already mentioned is low tyre pressure will reduce mpg.

Good luck.

I have your beast and I have never manually measured fuel consumption (brimming the tank etc) I just rely on the computer.
But with a combination of hard autobahn driving and stop & go town driving I have never seen it rise above 9l/100 km
I usually cruise at 8.5l/100km and if I am really frugal cruising at 120km/h I can get 7.5 l/100km.

Yours does seem excessively high.

New to this forum and wondering if anyone else has experienced a dramatic drop in fuel economy. Xc 60 2.4 awd 2009. Also mileometer has stopped. Gauge saying it’s doing 32 average but it’s closer to 15/18. Mix of driving so should be doing that figure. Any ideas guys? Thanks
