Default How Noisy is Your Engine?

My 2017 Volvo has the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. I would describe it as annoyingly noisy at tickover, even when warmed up. Anyone else feel this is the case with their car?

I know where you're coming from.
My Mrs has a 2016 Kuga with the 2.0d and auto box which isn't the quietest.
Her previous was a 2011 cmax with the same engine and box but was a lot quieter at tickover.

My 65 plate 2.4 D4 is satisfying noisy enough.... Enough to enjoy the five cyl burble while enjoying music on the infotainment system. If I want quiet, I’ll buy me something like an old school Jag

My D5 isn't too bad at idle and sounds so much better when you boot it! I feel your issue may be that you're a cylinder short

How long have you had it? Obviously not long I'd it's 2017 .
This makes me wonder, it's been pretty cold out for the last few months.could it be that your extra noise is the combined effects of higher engine oil viscosity because of lower temperature, along with richer fuel mix and higher idle as the ECU tries to bring everything up to normal operating temperature?

Or put more simply, pretty much every car I've ever had us more noisy in very cold weather than when it's warmer.

I knew an undertaker whom always ran petrol cars despite their shocking fuel economy. I asked why he did not use diesel cars as it would save him a fortune. His reply, who wants a diesel grumbling away at a loved ones funeral.

I like the D5 grumble, especially when given a get on. Inside the car it's only just audable at tickover, outside you can easily hold a conversation and at no point do I need to turn the radio up to drown it out.
Yes iit's noisier than a petrol car but I knew that when I baught it for its power and torque which makes it a superb tow barge.

Paul.

My 2.4 d5 is noisy when first started but i read online that this is normal for Volvo diesel engines. I just take it slow till its warmed up then not to bad when everything is upto temp.

My work transit 2016/17 (66 plate) 2.0 E6 diesel sounds horrible and loud, whereas my 2002 E3 D5 sounds far more refined - that’s progress for you!
