Used car value - are they pretty much worthless now?
I'm not looking to buy or sell, just curious.
Facebook has introduced marketplace. There's always loads of cars on there of all makes and models. They're all up for next to nothing. Like, a few hundred quid for cars that are claimed to be fine, with long MOT etc. Makes me wonder, is this an effect of the trend of leasing, something else, or is it really not a widespread thing? |

I think it is a temporary thing - at the moment loads of people have moved to private lease plans - there's a lot of unneeded vehicles about for now...

there are a lot of modded cars for sale now that should fail the next mot, dpf removal, hid 'upgrades', aftermarket bits fitted causing engine management lights/airbag lights, all expensive to put right stuff that will currently pass mot but fail next time round....
At least I have a feeling that's the current crop of super cheap, plus the current pcp/lease craze as Army has mentioned |

Used cars at actual car dealers seem to still have the same kind of prices. It used to be that private was always a little bit cheaper. But I'm seeing cars for about 300 quid that would be on a forecourt for 1500 or more. It's bizarre.

Yet another factor, 'rippedoffagain' might be people chasing the last mile per gallon not wanting large petrol engined cars. As a buyer, that worked in my favour when I bought my V70. I paid £550 for it 18 months ago from a dealer with four months MOT. It has since gone through two more in my ownership with only very minor rectification required.
It's an ill wind ..... Regards, John.
