You think i got one of these mistakenly batched engines? Well, it could be possible, that would explain it. I wasn't sure what the difference was between the two engines. Now i know, cos i've seen other 1.7l 460's without the Lambda Sond badge on the front grill, meaning they would be the ones with EP engines.
Anyway.... |

Which ones were the original B18E engines? The 1.7l in the 300 series was a Renault engine too, or are you referring to the turbocharged ones (though i think that's the B18FT engine.)

The B18E was fitted in 480 and 440 up to 1989 a great engine 115 bhp and double barrell throttle it went really well before emissions came into the factor , having said that, it was a clean engine ..

The carbie version then? I thought they were weaker, rated around 87HP.

No the B18Kp ( carb ) was not fitted to 480 The B18E was the first injection engine fitted to the 480 in 1986 and 440 from 1988 it was the nicest to drive injection engine , very willing and powerful only 5 bhp less than the B20F 2 litre . A well tuned smaller engine is always more exciting to drive than a larger less tuned one .. and more efficient .

You're right there. I'd rather have a smaller cc turbocharged engine than a big engine up front. The B20 engines go real well, lot's of torque at low rpm, but in a 480 i'd definetly go with the 1.7l turbo

I had the B18E engine in my first '88 480 ES and it was a lovely motor to drive. The B18EP was in my last '91 480 ES and it was almost as quick as my previous '90 480 Turbo. I recon the EP engine is specific for towing...?
