To me it sounds as so you don't really care about the car being impounded or you spending a night is Spanish jail and you really think that the Spanish minister for tourism would care about your car being impounded.
Saga will not give unlimited euro cover for a car that spends 9 months in Spain or France, read the small print.
But at the end of the days its your car and your wallet.

English registered cars in the X pat hotspots get particular attention. I've lived here for over five years now and I've seen foreign reg' cars get more and more attention. The police tend to hang around airports stopping foreign reg' cars of people who live here and don't re register, picking up friends and relatives. Be warned.
