How to check if inter cooler is leaking

I think my inter cooler is leaking. Is there a easy way to check. Bloke at volvo said about a smoke test. Does anyone know how much that will cost

Also does anyone know how much I'd be looking at for a for a new inter cooler for a 05 2.0d s40

new from volvo probably about £300 or something stupid

from ebay or from a motor factor about half that

second hand.. £40-50
