Default P1800e Rear reversing light

Hi all, Happy new year, Need help fixing a rear reversing light, 1971 p1800E
I have looked underneath the car (gearbox and have a red wire that seems to have a spade connector near it(see pic) - am I right in thinking this is from the reverse switch on gear box, the red wire goes to the solenoid for the over drive which works fine on my car :-) also pic shown of overdrive solenoid bit blurred but looks like red wire is live and other wire earthed the gearbox.
I have a white wire in the boot connected to the rear reversing light but haven't traced that out yet. Any advice appreciated

The red wire is to go opposite the black one on the solenoid, the big can in the blurry pic.

The reverse switch is tucked away under the remote at the top of the main gearbox casing, not shown in your picture. A bit awkward to get to. I think it is a white wire? D types with the earlier remote have the reverse switch on the flat top part of the gearbox plate.

The white wire goes to the reversing light relay which is under the hood.
See attached diagram.
Best to check continuity to ensure you have the correct wire.

Powen;

When investigating wiring, always refer to factory Wiring Diagrams, as I have posted here for the '71 1800E (https://www.sw-em.com/1800E%20Wiring%20Diagram.jpg 39 is OD Sol and wire between Sol and 4th Gear Lockout Switch is indeed shown as Red) . Correlation of wiring color codes to actual is excellent, so as I say: The Wiring diagrams are your friend!

Good Hunting!

Yes, they are one and the same. In the picture I posted, you’ll see #24.

For future reference, I have one of these diagrams, and would recommend. It’s very easy to read, with clear colour, 11x 17, and has been indispensable. No affiliation.

It appears that Derek answered that question in post number 2. Unless you’re asking a different question?

Well making progress - If I ground the Cale with the loose spade the solenoide kicks in and rear reversing light comes on, So just need to connect that back to the switch on top of gearbox, funny thing I can't work out is why its where it is (sleeved with another cable and hanging down side of gearbox, only suggestion I have is that the wire has been routed wrong so spade cable in wrong place anyway hopefully solved , thanks all
