Default Just bought an engine off ebay, what's it out of?

Can anyone tell me what this engine would have come out of? I've just bought it off ebay as my 240 b230k with the 631 head **** itself on the bypass today, crank let go and put a huge hole in the side of block.
Trying to work out what I'll need to change and adapt to suit this engine.

7 or 9 series Volvo. You can't have the distributor on the back of the engine on a 240 -- there's not enough room. You'll need to remove it and fit a blanking plate for the hole (easy to find). Bosch distributors are easy to find and reliable. From the shape of the intake manifold it will be LH 2.4 (or 2.2?) You'll need both computers and a wiring harness (available from ClassicSwede). That's the big stuff that would be required -- although I'm sure there's more...

The timing cover label should enable a Volvo dealer to trace the original car fairly easily, failing that run the engine model series number through Google/Wickipedia and you'll find a list of vehicles to which it could have been fitted.

A good look at that photo makes me think it's actually a B200K or B230K -- so no need to swap in LH computers etc.

As others have said, that engine was in a 740 or 940 and you’ll need to swap a few things to make it work in a 240.

Take the cam cover off and the cam out to remove the distributor from the back of the head, then use the blanking plate from your old engine to plug the hole after reassembly.

If you’re lucky your distributor and auxiliary drive shaft from your existing engine aren’t damaged, if so you can swap them over to this engine.

Watch this (somewhat rambly) video for an overview.

Other than that it should be relatively straightforward- your old engine was carb fed as well I think?

Cheers

Thanks chaps, yeah it is a b230k out of a 740 I've discovered through talking to Dai. I'm hoping my dizzy and cam blanking plate will still be usable, no reason the cam plate won't be. Will need to reuse flywheel and Crank sensor which I have new anyway.
Just need a coil and I should be away.
Don't know how the accelerator cable and choke setup will work and vac pipes etc?

Also what about the intake side of things? Guess I'll need new air box and will it need some sort of air flow meter? My current air box has that vacuum solenoid for the egr

The best fix would be to fit a set of 45 DCOE's

Crank sensor? If your old engine was carb fed, why was there a crank sensor?

Cam cap should be reusable, I’d be surprised if the distributor was damaged. The auxiliary shaft might be though, you’ll have to remove it from the old engine to check - should be relatively easy to get hold of another one if required.

If you’re keeping the carb that comes with the new engine then you just need to connect the brake booster vacuum.

You’ll need to strip the engine wiring loom off your old engine and put it on the new engine, along with the engine mounts, alternator mount etc.

Cheers
