On the test drive make the gearbox work hard by locking down the gears and also holding the car still on a hill with only the engine to heat up the ATF. Change gear while stationary from D to R, allowing ther car to travel a short distance and then and back several times and see if there is any clunking or noise. Don't let the car seduce you into only seeing how nice it is. Make it show you its failings! It's so easy to be impressed by a high end car like the V70 and to overlook signs that all is not as well as it might be.

Hope this isn't frowned on here but basically asking the same question.

Also looking at getting a V70 Mostly be used as the family wagon and commuting, sadly our touring days are over for next few years (newborn)

My budget looks like I can get a 2010 car albeit with 140k or higher on the clock so will be looking at what's already suggested on this post.

Also want to ask about the 1.6D DRIVe engine, is it any good keeping in mind what the car's going to be used for or am I better off sticking to the tried and tested 2.0?

also any tips for an Aussie buying his first car over here? Mrs has a company car so have managed to get away with not actually having to purchase one till now

Ta
