Socket is in arm rest, early sockets under the bonnet have the little jumpers with them.

Default Repeat after me

NO Volvo 940s are OBD2 compatible. Some have an OBD2 socket, but what comes out of it is not OBD2 (and sometimes nothing at all does from one or other of the computers).

To answer your question, yes this homebrew reader is designed to work with later 940's that have the OBDII style socket in the arm rest which is not actually OBDII reader compatible.

Thumbs up Thanks

Just finished mine.

Some how I ended up with an orange LED so it kind of resembles a set of traffic lights, but a useful tool it shall be.

Thanks again

Default Slightly Different Approach

bmxJeff's completed reader looks excellent. Inspired by this, I plunked the part numbers into Maplin's web site and was just about to order when I thought I'd check-out ECUfix first.

First off, they do a OBD-II plug already attached to a length of cable which looks a good short-cut.

But I've decided to try a slightly different approach and have ordered one of these.

http://www.ecufix.com/shop/index.php...roducts_id=208

My plan then is to make a very simple test probe with an LED, push switch and three jumper wires. One to pin 16 for +12V, one to pin 4+5 ground and the other to plug into whichever pin I want to monitor. No need to wire up that fiddly rotary switch this way.

This is what I came up with. No errors showing at the moment, but it works and gives the 1-1-1 code for ignition and fuel injection. Reduces soldering to three connections if you're careful how you position the switch relative to the LED.

So,
I have made my tester (thanks for the instructions) and got the read-out for the ignition error, the ABS and the cruise control, but it won't give me anything on the fuel...
Also, in my car terminal 7 on the socket has a connection. What is this for? (SRS?)

Does anyone have the full list of codes for the various check positions?
Thanks
Andrew

Pin 7 is the data connection used by Volvo's VCT 2000 diagnostic system which would access areas like SRS and powered drivers seat (if fitted) and others not covered by pins 1,3,12 and 13 .

Codes are the same as for the older OBD I diagnostics (cars with diagnostic box in engine bay). They can be found in the FAQ.

Thanks for that Gavin.

Anyone got any ideas about how to solve the problem of the fuel diagnostic on pin 3 not reacting? (I am certain the connection to the pin on the OBD plug is correct - I have checked & double-checked it...)

Also, is it normal for this sort of tester not to get any signal from pin 7?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about your problem with pin 3. Maybe bad connection or fault in the car's wiring.

I tried pin 7 when I made my tester and got nothing but didn't expect anything.
