Auxilliary belt
What length auxilliary belt is the correct length for my car? The car itself is a year 2000 phase 1 V70 2.4 n/a petrol 140 with aircon. I've seen them advertised at 1200+ mm and also at 1800+ mm both adverts stating they fit my car! Obviously if the the lengths varied by 2 or 3 mm that could be down to the person measuring it or whatever but to vary by 600 or so mm is just plain ridiculous! I don't want to order one only to have to send it back.
TIA. |

They may both be right, as IIRC at some point they changed the official routing of the belt to prevent slippage on one of the pulleys, maybe the alternator, I'm not sure. For the later routing you need a longer belt of course. Others on here will know more detail than this, but just thought I'd mention it.

1800mm sounds about right, ~1200mm is a shorter belt that bypasses the a/c IIRC.
Luxobarge is right, the belt routing was altered mid-way through the 850 production cycle... |

Ah, so your V70 will always have had the later (and longer) routing, so re-fit it the way it is at the moment. Worth making a diagram if you don't already have one, as it can be a riddle if you forget how it goes!

Looks like they may have changed the belt length again in Aug 2000.

Thanks[I think]for the above.I have checked out the old thread you provided a link for.I'm even more confused now[not a difficult thing to achieve!]as that gives yet another possible length of 1700+mm More checking needed before I order one methinks!

Best order from your Volvo dealer, they will supply the correct length
