Very honest photos - well done.
Buyer will need to factor in about the same ££ again for blast clean and powder coat with protective lacquer top coat. Well - that's what I paid in Basingstoke recently for a cash job - but it was a good job and quick. See pic of bars on the car. I put them on this afternoon - It was a simple one man job to fit them - no need for jacks or stands. Lying on the ground, there's plenty of room to work without getting right under the car. Whip out the qty 4 short bolts on one side, (you will need 13mm socket at the front and 15mm at the rear). With the new shiny rail lying on an old blanket or similar, offer up one end of the bar and, supporting the bar on your knee (while lying on the ground) partly insert the new longer bolt with one washer above and one below the bar- I just put them in by hand at first. I used a drop of loctite blue as the bolts were s/hand and the original threadlocker was mostly gone. Then part insert the second bolt and allow the bar to drop gently to the floor. Scuttle to the other end and repeat - note you need 15mm and 16mm sockets for the new bolts as the heads are a size bigger (with the same threads obviously) than the original bolts. Hand tighten until snug or too stiff to turn then Torque the bolts to 37.5ft/lbs (front) and 60ft/lbs (rear) - If you don't have a torque wrench, it's not critical, just pull them good and tight with your ratchet and they will be OK. At this point I loosened and re-tightened the bolts holding the main bar to the front and rear brackets to get them lined up properly because this was not so easy while they were off the car as they are a bit cumbersome and I didn't want any chips or scrapes on my nice new finish. Rubber pads will go on when the temp outside increases above 15degC. (if it does...) I'm reusing the old ones that came off prior to blast cleaning and was able to remove all the old adhesive tape with white spirit. (best done outside - unless you like the "just painted" smell - like the Queen does) I got a 5m roll of 9mm wide double sided auto adhesive tape from ebay and that is just enough to put 4x300mm strips on each pad - 1 on each "lip" and 2 down the middle. Hopefully that'll be good enough to hold them in place but I plan to put some tie wraps (Lidl have nice big reusable ones on special right now) around while the adhesive bonds. Cheers Dave |

Thanks for the advice Dave. I'm going to adjust the price to reflect the condition.
You might want to repost the fitting guide in the main forum, as it's a bit hidden away in here! NEW PRICE: £100 Last edited by m1k333; Jun 3rd, 2016 at 11:16. |
