Default Wanted rods etc from pedal to carbs

I have a 1971 1800E which the last owner converted rather badly from injected to twin SUH6's. He used cables. Anyone got everything/anything from foot to carbs? ie I discover that even the accelerator pedal in the injected is different, with a different rod that goes from pedal through the bulkhead low down. So I need new pedal, rod from pedal through bulkead, rubber, rod going up to top of bulkhead, bulkhead bracket, horiziontal rod from top of bulkhead bracket out to above the carbs. Is it worth it ? Yes the rod linkage looks & works well & this cable looks crummy !

Is your car a stick or an auto? Assuming you are after a set of linkage from an earlier carbed 1800/122, there were different linkages for the the BW 35 or M40/1. I've got some linkage about but I don't know exactly what you are after. I'm not hugely familar with the later 1800 so I don't know if you have the hole in the fire wall for the pedal linkage to enter the engine compartment. A rod would then run vertically up to near the pedal box and tie into the forward rod.... Does this make sense? Maybe you posting a photo of what you have would help me figure out if I can help you....

Hi Chris,

May I firstly say what a lovely chest you have? Yes, my car is stick shift, but more important perhaps, its right hand drive. I don't (yet) have a hole in the firewall for the correct type of rods to go through, just a little hole high up which a wire goes through, as mine has no rods.

I attach a word doc from a parts manual (I think). What I'd like are all the rods & brackets shown on the left (which suit a pair of SUH6 carbs) but not those in the box on right (which suit HIF6 I think). Also the pedal, rod & support plate shown lower right (for RHD cars) but not the rod lower left (LHD cars). I'd also imagine there is a rubber grommet for when a hole does get made in the bulkhead ... will be fun working out just where to make said hole.

If I took a photo it'd just show my grubby engine with teh wire set-up so I think not very useful.

Regards, Michael

You are correct that I will not be able to help you with the pedal unit for an RHD 1800. The linkage downstream of that is all the same....

The diagram on the LEFT is the for the HIFI set up. The more common SU set up is shown on the right. That set up having a transverse rod between the carbs to make sure they open up at the same time (rather than the two semi-vertical rods on the HIFI).

I will see what I have in terms of linkage that may help you this evening.

Thanks Chris, yes mine is definitely twin SU's of the H6 type, ie with a pair of float chambers between the carbs.

See the attached photos... The first one shows the linkage on a car. The second one has me pointing at the fire wall bracket. The third photo is the vertical rod and the final photo is a set of the linkage laying out on the floor to sort of match the parts manual.

I didn't have any loose firewall brackets but I should have one or two on cars down in the field. It was late last night when I was doing this so I didn't get a chance to check but I'm 99% sure I have one.

Thus this is what I can offer to you....

Drop me a note off list.

Thanks
Chris
