He was totally incorrect in his assertions and however you try to look at it, he was wrong and trying to blame others for his errors.
Had he admitted his culpability that would have been very different, the fact the he chose to delete the content only serves to prove the point.

Doesn't prove any point. At least in my eyes.
Unless that "point" is " when faced with aggressive or unkind person, gather your belongings and go". I would assume pretty much what he did- that I'll find guidance on DVLA site/helpline, and on its abroad counterpart website/helpline. The fact that he wasn't given any advice by DVLA only confirms my own experiences- that bunch is as friendly and helpful as flies in a deep country bog. The only thing I blame him for was removal of his posts. And that was triggered by..

Where was DVLA at fault?
They would not register a car as he had admitted that he had exported it and it was no longer in the UK. The French would not allow him to import it as his paperwork was incorrect, and poster was able to resolve the issue by registering the car sale, which Was the correct route to take at the start to get the proper paperwork for the French Authorities. The issue was with the poster as he expected DVLA to bend the UK rules to meet the French requirements, the issue was not with DVLA who acted correctly. Though it does, for some reason, seem acceptable on this forum to denegrate DVLA for any car related issue, irrespective of where the actual blame lies.

Ehhh... Its getting boring, really.
I believe the issue was DVLA not providing right information's on their website- quite opposite, really. And after poster followed the suggested route, then DVLA refused to help him out. But by now its just a word against word. On one hand I'd like to see poster come back and tell again how it was, step by step.. On the other I don't give a flying boomerang anymore. Its bedtime. Nighty- night

Ah, now I understand, I think! Thank you again, 'ThomasG'. An interesting dilemma; I wonder if the rules may change post Brexit?
Regards, John.

So long as the DVLA continues to supply cowboy parking companies with owners information for a small fee, they will get nothing but contempt from me.

Ok folks here it is,
This is not my first rodeo. I have exported two cars before this one and both were fine as the v5c were already in my name. This one was different and that was because since it was bought through a dealer the V5c was in the previous owners name. Knowing that this could be a problem,I emailed the dvla and suggested it was wiser to have the v5c issued to a care of address in the uk as the french may accept the advised dvla proceedure to use a bill of sale from the dealer to prove ownership. There is no clear audit trail from the existing V5c in the previous owners name and me. They said this was not possible and their advice stood. Later on they admitted it was possible. No matter what other grumpy members state in subsequent posts this is no fault of my own. The emails back from the dvla stated that their " advice" was as stated and ther will be no problem registering it. However, because i did not believe that advice I left a plan b to get round it, but I gave the dvla a chance to sort it out first. What hspoened next was the dvla said they did not know what another countrys requirements are and they are not responsible for any advice. What was clear to me was that they would rather post the wrong advice than no advice. There were no disclaimers and you cant speak to someone at the dvla without ten minutes of them. This person was then quite malicious byrefusing the subsequent issue of a v5c to a care of address in the uk on the grounds of the car being outside the uk. This is unlawful and contradicts the dvkas own rules that only after one year of removal from the uk can a vehicle be deemed exported. The only other circumstance is if I had retured the export section of the V 5 or applied for an export licence which i had not. The dealer did not have any solution as the solution came from me. I did contact the dealer in the before leaving france to prime him of a potential problem and we agreed the plan b of them requesting it before i even left france to collect the car. That course of action is totaly lawful as it is the right of any individual who buys a car in the uk to have the correct documents resident or not. They cannot block it or refuse it. The funny thing is that i spoke to plenty of dvla employees who were very helpful and told me the way round it, which confirmed what i already knew. The statement that they are not responsible for any advice given could simply be addressed by a disclaimer and people would know where they stand. Thats the full story. There will probably be a response from the usual knowitall but to me that is just " blah blah" . |

That, on the face of it seems fair enough. One thing puzzles me though and it may be because I'm a little out of touch with this but, is it a right hand drive car? Because I had thought that you needed to register the vehicle with your local town hall within six months to get the necessary plates etc and that they wouldn't accept right hand drive cars? I'm probably wrong, or if got the wrong end of the stick.
