and yet if you tell them you have a garage they sometimes will not insure it if it is not kept in the garage over night.

I had heard this about garages with some insurers.

End of the day they are a rip off, and will extract, and avoid paying out any way they can if given the choice.

Given that garages in UK is a bit of an oxymoron, I doubt there are significant discounts for parking in a "garage".

I presume 'keyless' entry is where you dont need to push a button to enter the car? Keyless entry pics up a signal as you walk towards vehicle and it unlocks itself?

More or less. Touching a door handle causes the car to transmit a signal which is picked up by the key. The key then transmits a pass-code to the car and if it matches one of the pass-codes* stored in the car the doors unlock. All this happens in a few milliseconds.

* For security reasons it's a rolling code but the system has to allow for more than one key and accidental activations.

Thanks for that. My key is still the fob type, push the unlock button etc. So I guess it won't be affected by this criminal ploy?

A bit shocked at how insecure Volvo keyless entry system is.

I don't think it is any less insecure than any other on the market.

Ironically it seems cars with keyless entry are more at risk when parked in the drive at home.

True. Audi, BMW and Renault are the worst.
