Default Exhaust Help Please

Hi,

Have just found this really great site, but can't find an answer to my problem, hope you can help.

Found my exhaust to be blowing so took it to Kwikfit to have a look, they found a crack above first cat and have been told that both cats will need replacing as this is 1 piece.

Doe's anyone have any thoughts on this and also any idea on cost as i've just done a search on google and as I can't find this part, I assume it's a dealer only part.

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

AAaaggghhhhhh...!!!!!

First bit of advise: don't go to/use kwik fit!!

Worst case senario is that the crack can be repaired/welded and an additional plate/cover added on top to add strength to the area.

Didn't know the S60 has 2 cats though. 2 inlet pipes perhaps??
Would need more details of the car/year/engine..

Also there are a couple of posts on cracked manifilds where manifold repair paste is going to be used to repair. So, buy nothing, certainly not from kwik fit - their kit is poor quality..

Thanks for that Des.

I didn't know it had 2 cats either til they told me.

Car is an S60 D5 2.4 year 2002.

If you look at the back of the engine, pipe leading off manifold has got a bend in it and that's where it's cracked, (have seen it from underneath) so I don't think it's the manifold.

Have been to 1 other place but no one seem to have the parts listed, am waiting on them to get back to me.

If there's any other help you can give me on these details, that would be great

Hi,

They are talking out their behinds..
Although, by the looks, there are a couple of additional boxes before the cat..
See the attached..
No CAT listed on cats4less either..

I would suggest the repair, but see a dealer for correct pats and cost of them.. Don't buy the though!!

This is the stuff I have just ordered to see if it will effect a permanent cure for my cracked manifold.

Should work on a leak in your exhaust no probs' I would have thought?

Cheers for that,

Will see what they have to say when they come back with price, but in light of your info, will be steering well clear of them.

If i can get a repair, I will.

Thanks also, Scotsgent for your input
