Default Second hand key fobs again !

Hi . When I purchased my V70 . There was only one remote key fob with it that actually went with my car , the other one had been given away with a different car ! I was given the the odd fob as well and thought I might be able to get it re -programmed . I asked at my local Volvo dealer if they could re-program it , they told me told "if the fob has already been programmed you will have to buy a new fob @ £50 software @£20 plus labour " Am I being fobbed off ,excuse the pun . Have any of you actually had a fob (2002/3 model) re-programmed by Volvo ? I have seen some volvo instructions saying that My model key fob/remote needs diagnostic equipment to reprogram it . I'm just wondering if Volvo think they are loosing out on sales, since E-bay ,and are just refusing to re-program second hand units.

I think that each fob comes with a 'PIN' number which is required in order to be able to programme it to the ECU via VIDA. From other posts I gather that the ebay ones come without it and therefore can't be programmed by the dealers.

I think I paid just over £100 from a dealer for a new fob plus programming last year.

just lie and say your other keyfob doesnt work
they'll reprogram it for you (if you got the car from dealer in the last 6 months)

Hi Akash.I cant really expect the local stealer to do it as I bought the car from a dealer in another county ,and to be honest I got the car at a price to sort out the couple of faults . Its just that £100 for a key fob seems a bit rich !!! I supose I'll have to bite the bullet and get one .If I should lose the good one i would be up the creak without a paddle!

Recently had a similar problem with a 2001 V70, I had 3 keys but only one fob in tatty condition, Lookers in Hadleigh charged £43.83 for a new fob and £25.50 for programming it and then VAT on top. Steep but now the wife will let me drive the car and I no longer have to drag the kids into the road to unlock the car and leap in and try and switch off the alarm before it goes off. Obviously the wife kept the new one! Mind you, while at the dealers they did change the cooling fan and motor, gratis.
