Default V70 gurgling fuel pump

As with pretty well any fuel injected car, if the driver's door is open, switching on the ignition of my 2003 V70 2.4T normally elicits a "bzzzzzzzzzzz" "click" from the rear of the car as the fuel pump spins up.

Over the weekend however, there was an audible gurgling sound like a heater matrix with air in it overlayed on top of the "bzzzzzzzzzzz" "click". No matter how many times I repeated ignition switch on, and no matter how brief the pause between doing this, the symptoms were the same.

Today, the fuel pump is back to the usual "bzzzzzzzzzzz" "click" with no gurgling.

The only difference that I can think of is that over the weekend the fuel tank was about 1/5 full, whereas now it is 3/4 full having filled up yesterday evening.

Does a P2 V70 fuel pump have multiple pickup points, and could fuel level have been exactly right at 1/5 capacity to cause one of them to also ingest air?

Thanks very much.
