Question dilemma - D5 or 140SE

Which would you go for?
a D5 SE with 80K or a 140bhp SE with 30K, both same age and same price,
mind you the petrol is main dealer,
anyway which one would you go for?

what age are they?
while I'm not a fan for too much mileage cars if buying new, especially if theres such a big gap, i'm not a fan of spending every week on a tank of petrol either hence having a D5

The D5 shoud be 163bhp so more power/torque than the 140
D5 engine is great and very strong - should be able to get way more than double of what it has done

How long are you keeping it for?

its really hardto make a choice between the two but I guess its down to a few things... do you want better consumption in fuel (get d5)? or quieter ride without the noise (petrol) or more power (d5) and so on
are they identical in spec then?

whats service history on the both like?

having just bought a 140 bi-fuel i would say the D5 if i'm honest.

the 140 is fine up to 4500, however if you like some poke any higher the rev range the 140 will leave you a bit disapointed.

test drive both and see what you prefer and buy according to that, although i would prefer the D5 to have fewer miles if i'm honest

That's no dilema!

D5, D5, or D5!

At that mileage it hasn't gone once round the block and the driving experience will be in a different, effortless, league compared to the asthmatic 140 with (in the manual version at least) an even taller final drive ratio than the 170 it is (by software restriction) derived from.

Well i've not driven a petrol V70, but from the first 5 months of D5 ownership I would be amazed if the petrol was anything like as good. Mine now has 75K on the clock, goes like stink when prodded, is an effortless motorway cruiser and returns over 40mpg for the daily commute and up to 44mpg on a run.

The torque characteristics of the D5 just seem to suit the big heavy V70 really well, certainly in manual form, and above about 20mph there is no way you would tell its a diesel.

Do you mind me asking the ages of the cars and the price. I paid 10.5K privately for a Jan 03 SE with 65K miles 5 months ago which I thought was pretty good.

Cheers

Martin

I would buy the D5. I used to own a 2001 140 bhp V70 which gave great service and day to day running did 26-28 mpg and lacked some go. I recently changed it and now have a D5 S60 which is fast and does 40-42 mpg on the same running and is a much better car to drive. No question the D5 is great.
