I had the use of a D5 in my previous life in plod, they just kept on running. I never thought I'd own one. My MY2016 has the manual gearbox which I wanted, I've recently paid for the Polestar optimisation, so a slight increase from 220 to 230. It always gives 37mpg. It pulls like a steam train and it will produce one hell of a sound when required to. In all honesty, two years into ownership it has been the best car I've ever owned. I don't look at the current models, the dealership recently tried to get me in for a 'special offer'. I told them where to go, my car is not for sale. The engine in mine is a beauty and its matched to a manual gearbox. It is a dream.

thanks all.

Been doing some digging on 2.0L and as already said issues.
I don't really want to risk it had an Audi A5 a couple of years ago with oil consumption issue, it took 14 months of arguing with Audi before they would make any offer!

So 2.4 D5, going to look at a couple today fingers crossed..

ONE finale question seen a few with heated seats does that mean it would have winter pack? or are they standard on LUX models?

Regards

Darren

Don't think they are standard on LUX models but do come as part of the Winter Pack:

WINTER PACK
Heated Front Seats
Heated Front Windscreen
Headlight Cleaning System
Heated Washer Nozzles

It was also possible just to spec heated front seats on their own without the Winter Pack when ordering new. If you see the thin wires through the windscreen then it most probably has the full Winter Pack!

Funnily enough I have just swapped my Honda 2.2 Crv ex for a D4 AWD
The 5 cylinder model. The XC60 is a great car to drive and I am hoping will prove to be an excellent tow car. My only complaint is fuel consumption compared to the Honda. On a run driving like a Nun and sticking to speed limits can never achieve mor than 41 mpg, the Honda would do 50+ on occasions.
If fuel consumption is a big factor for you then you will be very disappointed.

A real shame they stopped building this engine.

Having owned both engines under consideration, I would look for a well maintained D5 - the new VEA D4 just isn’t in the same bracket.
I beg to differ that the 3rd Gen D5 is completely different - the head/intake/injectors/exhaust and turbo's are changed but the block I think still dates back to the original.

I would agree the D5 is the best choice, but as the car is a late XC60 that also means choosing between 8-speed gearbox and FWD or 6-speed and AWD. The better economy might be more important to the OP. And the VEA isnt by any means bad.....

Hi, what does the "Polestar optimisation" consist of? Is it just a remap or does it include anything else?

What is the new bhp/torque output once Polestar upgrade fitted?

Sorry to sound thick, but which is the TF-80 gearbox? Is thst the 6-speed Geartronic or the manual?

If it's the Geartronic, is the newer 8-speed auto a completely different unit?

Also, could anyone tell me how often each gearbox needs it's oil changing?
