'08 V70 2.4D intermittent rough start
Evening All,
I have recently acquired a 2008 V70 2.4D (159k) and had a quick query while I get used to it/collate my list of required 'tlc'! When starting using the push button start, while mostly okay, perhaps 1 in 3 or 4 starts sounds quite rough and agricultural, revs seem to bounce a little higher and you feel a fairly obvious shudder/'chug' in the body for a few seconds. This then dies away almost straight away and doesn't seem to reappear at any time other than start. Not a big deal in itself but just wanted to check if an indicator of anything I should be doing/keeping an eye on? Cheers in advance, Sandy |

I'd suspect glow plug.
How well does it start once it's hot? |

Thanks Tommy, I think by chance the rough start has often been from cold but I've not verified that scientifically, will try and take note. In theory the previous owner said they had he glow plugs replaced recently but, without an invoice, one can never be sure! Are there any other symptoms that might be worth keeping an eye out for that might also suggest a glow plug issue? Is that a 'clean up'/recondition sort of job or a replacement if am issue does present?
Cheers, Sandy |

Not sure to be honest. It might not be the actual glow plugs themselves (especially if they've been replaced) it could be something preventing them from working properly, like a relay, but it's not my area of experience!
Definitely record all starting conditions and if it is a cold start issue at least you've got a good starting point! Also have a look on the V70 00-07 section, as I think your 2.4D was also used on the later versions of that model. |

Thanks Tommy - I'll do a bit more digging then into glow plug issues and see if that feels like the issue, cheers!

Glow plugs are the most obvious candidate and can be confirmed or eliminated in minutes with a multimeter.
-Engine off and cold. -Pull the protective caps/power leads from all 5 glow plugs. -Multimeter set to resistance (if manual ranging, set dial to 200ohms) -Black multimeter lead on bare engine metal, red lead on the exposed end of each glow plug and take the reading and report back with all 5 resistance figures.
