Droning/vibrating noise from front passenger side
Morning All,
Wondering if any one has any thoughts on some noise I'm getting into the cabin on an '08 V70 2.4D Auto. Happens only when at speed and seems to appear intermittently at around 40mph bit particularly around 60mph. At first I thought it might be an engine note bit after paying a bit of attention, while it is particularly evident when accelerating through those speed ranges, it is a fixed pitch of noise rather than rising/falling with the engine and is slightly deeper/harsher than the engine note. Sounds more like a resonance of some sort (bit like a mobile vibrating on a wooden table or similar!). Had it in for a quick dealer health check the other week/recent MOT and nothing obvious flagged up. Anything I could be checking/investigating? Cheers! Sandy |

Swap your wheels around, see if it moves or goes away.
Otherwise my money is on the wheel bearing. |

That sounds fairly conclusive then at this stage, many thanks both! Is there any handy test I could carry out to confirm that for sure?
Cheers, Sandy |

My understanding is that with these bearings it's hard to feel when one is worn. But I believe you can hear them. I'd suggest finding a quiet non-windy moment, jack upo the front of thre car, and listen to both front bearings and compare. You're looking at about £200 to get it replaced, with a genuine bearing. Don't get a cheap knock off. It's not really a DIY job, as it needs a press to insert the bearing.

on a quiet road try swinging the car left then right to put load on and off the bearing , you often find the noise gets louder when the load goes on it and quieter when the load comes off it .. When you check for play and spin the wheel by hand in most cases you can not detect anything this way ..
