740 Fuel Gauge Problem.
I have recently purchased my first Volvo (a 740 SE Saloon) which I am most happy with. However, there happens to be a minor fault with the fuel gauge and was hoping that somebody on this site might be able to help.
When I first put the ignition on the the fuel gauge moves over and shows how full the tank is. However when I fire up the engine the needle falls back to showing zero, even when I have just filled the tank right up. Although this is a minor problem as I tend to go on how many miles I do before filling up, I would like to try and get the gauge working. Grateful for any advice anybody can offer on what the possible problem could be and any fixes that you may know of. Excellent website and I shall be joining up in the near future. |

RE: 740 Fuel Gauge Problem.
The best advice is to try and isolate the fault area to either the gauge itself, the wiring including the printed circuit behind the instrument panel or the tank unit. If it is the gauge I have a spare one. All the best, Peter |

RE: 740 Fuel Gauge Problem.
Peter,
Thanks very much for the advice. When I get the chance I'll check the items that you have suggested and see if I can spot any obvious problems. Thanks for the offer of the gauge and if it proves to be this I'll let you know. Hopefully whatever the problem is it will be simple to fix as I love the comfort of the car and hope to continue driving it for many miles to come. |
